Can we move to Monterey instead?
First, we want to congratulate Todd & Jodi on their roller coaster of a weekend. Believe me, we know how it feels. We went thru a similar ride when we bought the condo. We went looking at condos on a late Friday afternoon (like 3pm). The first place we saw, we liked and loved. But we were told as we were looking at it that the sellers were reviewing offers at 5pm. So we moved on and saw another condo. After some discussion and thinking, our Realtor (Jackie) said it couldn't hurt to put an offer on the first place. In fact, she liked that we would be at the sellers' agent's office, the sellers' could see our faces, and we could have a leg up (she must be related to Joe--Genius). On Saturday, we spent the day skiing at Big Bear/Snow summit and I had to beg them to let me receive a fax, sign, and fax back a counter offer. Make a long story short, after we didn't get it (something about a cash offer, much higher price, etc). But on Sunday, we got a call and were told things fell thru and it was ours to have! And here we are today.

After a counter offer, re-counter offer, Thursday night the Purchase offer was accepted. Not quite what we were hoping for, but something we were still comfortable with. The only caveat to the whole thing is that because we needed to sell our condo first, the sellers requested that they be able to keep the listing active. Basically, anyone can make an offer on the house, and should it be accepted, we have 72 hours to come up with the down payment.
This puts a lot of pressure on us being able to sell the house quickly, yet we are not in a position to give a huge discount in order to unload it. And things seem to moving on the selling side a little slow. Jackie's manager is supposed to manage things while she is gone. We were supposed to have an open house on Sunday. So we relocated our kitties for the weekend while we were gone. This was a traumatic experience for them. We were going to bring them both over to Laura's parents house on Thursday night so they could adjust to the new place (and new roomate, Smoki) prior to being left alone. But we could only get one of them out of the house because Aspen hid under our bed. So we took Taylor Thursday night and brought Aspen Friday morning. While in Monterey, we got a message saying that they were unable to find an agent to hold the open house. So effort wasted, and we get to do it all over again for the open house that was moved to this coming Sunday.
What does all of this mean? We start escrow on the Knotty Pine place today, anyone can make an offer on it and knock us out, and it appears that not one single person has viewed our condo since Friday.
We'll see what happens. If it is meant to be, then it will all work out.
