DISCLAIMER

I've been asked to add the following:

This blog, while reflecting the events of the life's of Randy, Laura, and Hannah, is written from my perspective. The opinions expressed herein are solely those of myself. I'm sure Laura would have her own view on our life's events.

Recap of our first weekend (part 2) and other tidbits...

Ok, so I'm a little later than I expected in getting back to this. Whatcha gonna do about it??

I don't really remember where I left off and where I was going. I just read the last post and I've got nothing.

Hannah had some weight problems at the beginning. It took awhile for her and Mom to figure out the entire breastfeeding thing. It wasn't until Sunday when they got on a good routine, and Hannah's first Dr. Appt was Monday. So the Dr. had us give her 3 bottles of formula every day and checked her again on that Friday. She had gained 11oz. in that short time! Laura just went back yesterday to have Hannah weighed and she was at 6lb 14oz! That is pretty good. They say it should take 2 weeks to get back to birth weight so she recovered nicely. She eats all the time now. Her tummy is starting to bulge and she is getting much stronger.

Laura has been adjusting to the less sleep thing and the breastfeeding thing. Let me just say there were some tense moments in the Buller household earlier in the week. Yesterday she was convinced to go to a breastfeeding support group at the hospital. It turns out, that it was probably the best thing for her. It got her out of the house and she had questions answered and other things she was doing reinforced. She is in such a better mood! Yeah! I must say, that I have been extremely proud of Laura and how she has taken on the role of mother. Those of you who know Laura, know that she is quite the kid at heart. But over the last 2 weeks, she has taken on that parent role is doing a fabulous job.

Hannah sleeps very, very well! Typically, she is fed around 10pm, sleeps until 2pm, then sleeps until 5am when I'm getting ready for work. So I'm only woken up once or twice during the night! We have to admit that we cheat. For right now, she sleeps in our bed. I know people frown when they hear that. But, rest assured, the hospital and doctor all say that it is fine for the moment. It makes sense to me. They spend 9 months in a close environment where they are constantly cuddled. So why expect them to all of a sudden sleep on their own? We can train her over the first few months to work towards sleeping by herself. Already this week, we have seen a little progress. We try putting her in her bassinet when she is asleep. And I try and put her down by herself even during the early evening. For the most part, she is a very happy baby. She only cries when she is hungry.

We gave her first bath on Wednesday. That was a traumatic experience for her. The second water touched her little behind, it relaxed that little sphincter muscle. So we had to take her out and empty the water to start over. After that, she cried (screamed) most of the time. But she smelled sooo good afterwards.

I've got some more pictures that I can hopefully post this weekend.

Recap of our first weekend (part 1)...

OK, so things are starting to calm down a bit. I feel like for the last week, our lives have never moved faster and we have never been busier--and those are probably 100% true.

Laura and Hannah came home Friday, a day earlier than anybody really expected. But Laura was ready because she spent Tuesday night in there before inducing labor Wednesday morning. From where I left off with the hospital update, with all of the medication to induce Laura, by 11am she was having strong contractions and was barely 1cm dilated. The doc saw this coming and at the 8am check-in, had Laura sign all the necessary paperwork to prepare for a C-section and that decision would be made at 11am--which it was. As it turns out, Hannah was Sunny-side Up and had the cord wrapped around her neck, so good call by the doctor.

My parents come down Saturday and left this afternoon. They were a big help in not only doing a few things around the house, but help make some dinners as well. Everyday, I have sat down for maybe an hour or two and then I was reading some of the mounds of papers and pamphlets given to us from breast pumps to birth certificates.

I'm supposed to go to work for a half day in the morning so I'll continue this tomorrow (I hope).
